Asking For Her Hand: Part 5 - Farewell Dumai

February 20, 2006. Bear heard someone opened the door but Bear was too lazy to open his eyes. Then Bear felt someone kissed his eyebrow. Bear thought he was dreaming so he opened his eyes. He saw Little Lion and quickly hugged her. Then Little Lion told Bear that it was time for Subuh prayer and then Bear realized that he was not dreaming. That was real and that was better than a dream. So, The Lions and Bear performed the prayer together again that morning. That morning, while clearing the prayer mats, Bear found a flattened lizard under Little Lion's mat. That poor lizard did not even have the time to turn blue or green. It was already cold when Bear picked it up and buried it in the dustbin. Little Lion was just screaming away in disgust.

Soon after that Papa Lion invited all of us for a morning tour around the city of Dumai and the Pertamina housing complex. Bear asked Little Lion whether we should shower first and Little Lion said no. Bear had no problem with that. Again, Little Lion walked down memory lane that morning and Bear just sat there enjoying the view and the history lesson. It was a calm morning. As calm as Bear's heart going around Dumai with Little Lion and her family.

After the tour, everybody felt hungry and we went for breakfast at Gantino since Little Lion had another craving. That time she wanted to have Lontong Sayur for breakfast. It was rice cakes with some jackfruit gravy and went well with the cow skin crackers. I forgot what do they call the crackers. It was really delicious although Bear disliked jackfruit.

After breakfast, we found out that the front tyre of the panther was flat. Luckily there were people around with the equipment and skills to change the tyre. For a few thousands Rupiah, you could just let them do it for you. While waiting for the tyre to be changed, Little Lion, Mama Lion and Bear went to the ferry office to check in. By the time we got back to the panther, everything was fixed and ready to roll again.

At home, after saying goodbye to Papa Lion who had to go to work, Mama Lion asked Little Lion and Bear to shower since Bear had to be at the jetty by 10 am. After a quick shower and packing, we left for the jetty. Then Mama Lion insisted that Bear bring back something for Mama Bear. We stopped at local store and Mama Lion bought some Lempuk or Durian cakes and Bear got some snacks and drinks while Little Lion settled for her favourite; Magnum ice cream. Little Lion likes it big!

We arrived at the Dumai Port about 10 am. Just nice. We took a photo with Mama Lion and then Bear said goodbye to Mama Lion and Ranto and then kissed Little Lion and walk into the terminal. Once inside, a few people inquired about Little Lion. They thought that Little Lion was already Bear's wife and asked when would Little Lion come along. On the way to the ferry, two port security personnels ask Bear about his golf game. That was because Bear had run out of shirt and had to wear Papa Lion's golf t-shirt. Luckily, Papa Lion had a few smaller t-shirts that he could not fit in.

Once on the ferry, Bear started to miss Little Lion very much. A few sms-es later, a box of not-so-nice fried noodles and some snacks from Dumai, Bear fell asleep and woke up in Melaka.

That was one of the best moments in Bear's life to spend 3 wonderful days in Dumai with Little Lion and her family and Bear would not forget that for the rest of his life.

The End.
