Asking For Her Hand: Part 2 - An Evening In Dumai

Papa Lion must have had some kind of sixth sense or something. He called right after Bear went through the immigration check. He asked Bear to look for Ranto the superboy. Little Lion had also mentioned that Ranto would be there to pick Bear up. Papa Lion also asked Bear to look for his car, which had a red number plate starting with "BM". Bear did not pay attention to the mentioned numbers as Bear was perplexed by the people who were offering services at the exit. However, the exit was cleared up when two policemen with canes in their hand chased after them.

Bear remembered that Little Lion once told Bear that Papa Lion drives a Terrano. Therefore, it was easy to spot the Terrano with the red number plate and not long after that Bear saw the smiling superboy Ranto. We got in the car and off we went to the Lion's house.

Bear in Dumai

Papa and Mama Lion was at the porch when Bear arrived. Both of them smiled and Bear felt good. After kissing their hands, Bear joined them for tea with some traditional nutty candies or biscuits. Bear could not recall the name but they were made of ground peanuts and really tasty. At the same time, Little Lion's uncle, Om (uncle) Dodi came. Apparently, he also went to the jetty but Bear was already picked up by Ranto. So, he just trailed us back to the house.

Bear didn't think that this would be the right moment to make the proposal and decided to wait for awhile. So, Bear just enjoyed the tea and the nutty stuffs. After sometimes, Bear wanted to give it a shot. For your information, Bear had no idea when the right time would be. As Bear was about to make the move, Papa Lion asked Bear to take a shower and get ready to go out for dinner with Om Dodi since Papa Lion had to attend a house warming party in the neighbourhood. So the first attempt was not successful...

The Lions and Bear performed the Maghrib prayer together that night and right after that Om Dodi was ready to take Bear to dinner. For the first time Bear went out for dinner wearing sandals. Papa Lion would not want Bear to wear shoes since he felt that it would be more convenient to just wear his sandals. Bear felt kind of funny wearing them outside the house. Now, that would be one new thing that Bear needs to get used to when being around Papa Lion.

Anyway, we had a scrumptious dinner at a local hotel, Hotel Patra something something... Bear could not remember that too. Bear's memory space is mostly filled with Little Lion. We had a whole fish (Bear loves fish), batter fried squids (sotong goreng tepung), some vegetables and rice. We could not finish all of them though.

A little bit about Om Dodi. He was a very cheery guy. He smiled and laughed a lot. In fact, he could do that almost all the time. Bear hopes that Om Dodi would not laugh while sleeping though. Later on, while we drove around for a short night tour of the city of Dumai, Bear found out that he was 2 months younger than Bear. However, by the virtue of being an uncle to Little Lion, Bear must address him as Uncle Dodi or Om Dodi. Great! That made Bear felt younger whenever he's around since Bear got to call him "Om!" ("Uncle!").

We got back to the house and Bear thought that he could go for the second attempt. Well, it didn't happen as well since at that time Papa Lion wanted to join some neighbours playing Domino at the porch. So, Bear took a sit and watched them played. After a while, Papa Lion disappeared into the house. Bear finally felt sleepy and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. There, Bear saw Papa Lion preparing coffee for his guests. Bear was amazed and sms-ed Little Lion who was still in Jakarta. Little Lion told Bear that was a normal thing that Papa Lion does.

Bear said good night to Papa Lion and sms-ed Little Lion about the failed attempts and decided to make the next attempt together with Little Lion. The noise made by those people playing domino at the porch became softer and softer and Bear crossed over to the never-never land...
