Basic English is a necessity

Why? So that you would not end up in an embarrassing situation.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting at one of those customer service representative’s desk while waiting for mynumber to be called at the CIMB bank in Putrajaya. Then came two guys who looked like they just graduated from some universities. Based on their conversation with the bank officer, I heard that they were recently hired on contract by one of the government agencies. They wanted to take the ASB loan.

The officer gave them some forms to fill up and left. They filled up the form and towards the end, both of them got stuck, at the same part of the form. Weird… Heran bin ajaib la jugak…

Guy A: Eh, yang ni nak letak apa ye? (What is this section for?)

Guy B: La, aku pun tak tau. Spau-si ni apa ha? (I do not know that too. What is Spau-see?)

Guy A: Tak yah isi la… (Let’s not fill it up.)

Guy B: OK

The form above is just a sample and not the form mentioned in this entry.

Apparently, both of them were stuck at the Spouse section of the form… And I thought the government is being quite particular about the level of English in this country lately… Oh well…

In my opinion, we are not expected to have an excellent command of English as it is not our mother tongue but the basic is a must.

Kesian la mamat dua orang tu…. Spouse is pronounced as spous or spouz and not spau-seeAdoiii…

The Best Jam Recipe Ever

Jan 23rd, 2010 by papabear

In order to make this jam, the timing must be perfect. It has to be done on a Friday evening between 5:30pm to 8:30pm. You would not get the best result if you were to make it on any other day or time…

Here are the ingredients:

Main Ingredients

  1. A 4-way intersection. 3-way would still do it but 4-way or more is the best. A 4-way junction near a popular shopping mall or a huge office complex would be the best.
  2. Lots of rain. The cat and dog type would be the best.
  3. A few dead traffic lights at the intersection mentioned above. All dead would be perfect.
  4. A few selfish drivers.
  5. A few egoistic drivers.
  6. A few timid drivers. (Opposite attracts – items 4 & 5 would bully item 6 to perfection)

Optional Ingredients

  1. One or two trucks or buses.
  2. Lots of honking.
  3. Some hand and face gestures.
  4. Some flashing lights.

Instructions

  1. Add all main ingredients.
  2. Then add optional ingredients as much as you like. Secukup rasa la….

Simple, right? I managed to bake one, a few hours ago, right after coming out of the Endah Parade parking, under the KESAS flyover trying to make my way back to Shah Alam.

Delicious!

Yummy!

Give it a try!

Project Management is lots of fun

Jan 21st, 2010 by papabear

Let me show you why…

Firstly, the customer will explain to you what they want. Most of the time, the customer have something in their mind but when it comes out of their mouth, it would be something else.

Then the Project Leader, who are leading the programming team, would come up with his or her version based on what he or she understood from the customer.

At the same time, the business consultant, with his or her I-know-it-all attitude would brief the team on his or her version of the customer;s requirements.

The analyst, on the other hand, normally does not really give a damn about the other two people and come up with his or her own ideas… Best kan?

The the programmer takes over. Most of the time things just don’t work…

Documentation? What documentation?

When the Operation side takes over and installed the work, it turns out to be something else since most people hate to read instruction properly.

Then after some troubleshooting and debugging was done, the product would be tested and most of the time, it would fail… That’sthe reality of it…

Eventually, the project is completed and the support kicks in… Just look at what has happened…

So, back to the beginning, The Marketing people come up with the product and all promises that it can be made to the customer’s expectation. You know, the sun and the moon stuffs…

Then when the customer got the bill, they would go, “What the hell!”

And what they actually needed was a different thing in the first place…

And the Project Manager get to enjoy all of the above throughout a project…

Fun? You tell me.

Jemuran oooh Jemuran..

Pemandangan kayak gini makin gak asik aja diliat tiap hari.. apalagi klo musim hujan..

FYI yg belum pernah maen ke rumah g.. g tinggal bukan di condo.. tapi townhouse yg kudu share halaman ama 15 pemilik rumah lainnya 1 blok g.. jadi as u can see.. pemandangan halaman belakang rumah g.. gak banyak space kan buat orang jemur baju dan lalu lalang.. so.. beli dimanaaaa yaaak disini beginian.. desperate dirasanin orang management gara2 jemur kain didepan rumah.. uuuuugghhh..

30 minutes

Jan 18th, 2010 by papabear

So what can you get for a 30 minute stop at the Shah Alam bound Dengkil rest area? Read on…

I hate having to drive after lunch especially when it’s a long drive. I would get very sleepy behind the wheel and nothing could really keep me awake… Ngantuk giler! On the way back from the project EsPeeDee meeting at IPDA in PD, I only managed to drive as far as the Dengkil rest area before I started nodding a lot behind the steering. Macam cerita Noddy jadinya….

So, I pulled over…

Hand phone, sunglasses, branded watches for sale…

The first thing that happened as I parked the car, a man, who I noticed loitering at the parking area approached me and showed a Nokia phone. He was selling and I was not buying… As I looked around, there were at least another two moving around the parking lots approaching one vehicles after another…

I am sure that some of you might have been offered something by these fly-like people. I wonder if there were really anyone who would buy those things and I wonder where did those things come from in the first place… Anyway, I refused to trade with people who buzzes at parking lots… Terimakasih aje la…

Tea Time

I settled in at a kopitiam there. The name was D Toast or something… Lupa dah… I went over the menu looking for a cup of hot coffee and the waiter suggested me to try the Kluang coffee. So I did… I was not that hungry but just felt like munching something so I ordered a beef burger…

There you go. A nice clean place for a rest. A cup of black Kluang coffee. A beef burger. The food was nice and the price was… Well the coffee was a bit expensive at RM 2.20 a cup but the burger was okay at RM 2.80… Anyway, all in all, it was quite good…

Can’t you read?

Before I left, I saw a taxi parked at the disabled person parking bay. I have always thought that Malaysians have very little respect for the disabled and what I saw just affirmed it. When I look around, I saw at least another two bays reserved for the disables were taken by unthoughtful and selfish people…

What a shame…. Buta huruf kah dorang tu eh?

Anyway, that was what I got for a 30 minute break…

Yet another Sunday

Jan 17th, 2010 by papabear

Lunch

Where to go for lunch?

Kalau ikut Diah: “Terserah Papa…

Unfortunately, there’s no eating place called Terserah Papa. Since I did not feel like eating at Azeera this Sunday, I took them to Pak Mal chicken rice in Section 11. Furthermore, Pasha loves nasi ayam and nasi lemak.

So, Diah and Pasha had chicken rice and I opted for the mixed rice from a place next door.

Pasha saw the ice cream box and immediately jumped off his chair and open it… After some hard negotiation, we managed to get him to agree to eat his lunch first and have ice cream as dessert…

Just look at him enjoying his trophy. Sedap kan? By the way, as usual, he was only interested in the chocolate coating…

So, who had to finish the rest of it?

Diah? Fat chance… I had to take all the creamy stuff…. Patutla aku gendut….huhuu…

Bake with who?

Diah wanted to buy something at this baking shop in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. The place is called Bake With Yen. However, by the time we got there, Ms Yen was still sleeping… Not that many people work on Sunday la ayang…

Due to that, we went back to Shah Alam and went to her usual baking stuffs place, Bagus in Section 13.

Pasha successfully napped after a good lunch and dessert and I played Solitaires while waiting for Diah to get her stuffs from that pinky shop…

The end….

Pasha wants donut

Jan 15th, 2010 by papabear

I saw a missed call on my hand-phone right after the Friday prayers. It was from my honeybunch Diah. I called back and she told me that Pasha asked her to call me. Apparently, he wanted to speak to me. Somewhat urgently…

Wah, dah pandai sekarang nak mintak cakap ngan papa dia…

Papa Bear: “Pasha…”

Pasha: “Papa…”

Papa Bear: “Yes Pasha.”

Pasha: “Papa, I want donut.”

Amazing! And he did not even tell his mother that he wanted to ask for some donuts…

At 2+ he is already asking for donuts. What’s next?

Hebat budak2 sekarang nih….

Anyway, on the way home, I dropped by SACC and get him (and the mother) some Big Apple donuts.

They taste much better than Dunkin’ donuts…

Trust me…

Pasha Bobo

Jan 14th, 2010 by papabear

Pasha always have problem sleeping at night. Most of the time he would still be awake past 11pm. There were times when we had to switch off the lights and force him to sleep. Sometimes he became cranky when he could not sleep. Most of the time, Diah would be reaching the la-laland long before Pasha began his trip. There were many occasions when both of us were already dreaming and he was still awake watching some of his favorite videos... Banyak betul energy anak aku ni...

There would be time where he would just take a pillow and then roll on the bed with it until he dozed off. Some other time, he would be rolling around with more than one pillow and the result would be... funny... Just look at the photos below...

Just look at how many pillows he had taken with him... Nasib baik kami banyak pillows... So, as you can see, from certain angle, it looks like he is right under the pillow. He loves it that way...

Apart from the above, the were also time where he would end up in some funny positions and this time I managed to catch one of them. Look at the photos below.

These were taken last night. As you can see, he fell asleep while his hand was still holding one of his feet. Macammana dia boleh manage , aku pun heran... That lasted quite a while before he eventually released his foot.

Well that's my boy! He is already 2 years, 8 months and 4 weeks today!
