Basic English is a necessity

Why? So that you would not end up in an embarrassing situation.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting at one of those customer service representative’s desk while waiting for mynumber to be called at the CIMB bank in Putrajaya. Then came two guys who looked like they just graduated from some universities. Based on their conversation with the bank officer, I heard that they were recently hired on contract by one of the government agencies. They wanted to take the ASB loan.

The officer gave them some forms to fill up and left. They filled up the form and towards the end, both of them got stuck, at the same part of the form. Weird… Heran bin ajaib la jugak…

Guy A: Eh, yang ni nak letak apa ye? (What is this section for?)

Guy B: La, aku pun tak tau. Spau-si ni apa ha? (I do not know that too. What is Spau-see?)

Guy A: Tak yah isi la… (Let’s not fill it up.)

Guy B: OK

The form above is just a sample and not the form mentioned in this entry.

Apparently, both of them were stuck at the Spouse section of the form… And I thought the government is being quite particular about the level of English in this country lately… Oh well…

In my opinion, we are not expected to have an excellent command of English as it is not our mother tongue but the basic is a must.

Kesian la mamat dua orang tu…. Spouse is pronounced as spous or spouz and not spau-seeAdoiii…
