The case where a karate referee from Indonesia was beaten by some Malaysian police has been creating lots of ugly and undesirable news especially from Indonesia. Media of both countries have also contributed in fueling these negative actions up to the point where my Mother in law, who is in Jakarta at the moment fears that the same is happening over here. She fears for the safety of my Honeybunch. There have been lots of anti-Malaysia news in Indonesia and I was over at Detik.com and I could easily find many such articles. So may stories are popping up there like mushrooms after the rain. It looks like this is something too big to let it be just water under the bridge for now. Even the apology form the Malaysian Prime Minister is not enough to cool things down.
Many people, somehow with their own agendas, may be, have contributed in blowing things out of proportion. There are even some personal blogs out there, which I would not mention here, have used the issues between Indonesia and Malaysia to make themselves more popular then ever.
I was reading the Star on the news "Envoy: Stop stereotyping Indonesian workers" and I believe there are some valid points that Malaysia need to take serious actions.
“They feel that when it comes to Indonesians committing a crime in Malaysia, justice has been swift but when it comes to Malaysians abusing their Indonesian worker, no action is taken,” Zainal Abidin told Malaysian media covering Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s three-day working visit to South Sulawesi yesterday.
It is something that I would agree with the Indonesians where it looks like Malaysians are practicing double standards. Hope that the Malaysian government would do something about that before things really get worse.
I also read this part of the news: Zainal Abidin urged Malaysians to erase from their vocabulary the term “Indon” used to refer to the Indonesians.
This part is really not the whole truth as not only some Malaysians do that but also some Indonesians do use that word themselves.
I hope that this whole thing would settle down soon since we are going into the month of Ramadhan soon and later after that we would be celebrating Aidil Fitri. That would be the time to forgive each other but we should not wait for that. My Honeybunch and I feel that this whole issues would not make anything or anybody better but both side would have many more things to lose rather than gain.
