Saman aka summons aka tickets received from the police (PDRM) for road or traffic offences. Recently there's a big hoo haa in Malaysia where motorists were offered 50% discount for their summons if they pay them on or before February 28, 2011. Malaysians love last minutes stuffs and a few days before the due date, they jammed the police stations, post offices and of course,
MyEG, the government online portal.. The system simply collapsed and went into a coma..
As expected, the system was revived and the due date was extended to March 10, 2011. By now, the online payment mechanism might be already choking again..
While all of these are going on, I had a good laugh.. I am neither laughing at those who had to empty their pockets and pay the
saman nor ROFLMAO.. It is more like a kinda cynical laugh.. Why?
I heard and I read how some people were angry, furious and dissatisfied that they were made to pay their
saman. They were accusing the government of purposely trying to take away their money. The best were some of them who even refused to pay on the ground that they believe that all the money will eventually go into Rosmah's pocket to fund her shopping sprees.. My goodness! How lame can that be. Even if that were true, what has that got to do with paying for offences that they had committed against the law?
If somebody in the government took that money, that would be wrong. For breaking the law by speeding, beating the traffic lights, passing on the double line and other traffic offences are wrong things to do as well. Two wrongs don't make a right!
To the traffic offenders, think about what you had done. Politics has got nothing to do with your
saman.. You broke the law and therefore, you deserved it. I am sure that while you were driving, you would have seen signboards that say, "Speed Kills!" or "Kelajuan Membunuh!" Those signs would never say "Cow Kills" or "
Zombie Kampung Pisang Kills" or "
Hantu Kak Limah Kills". It is your reckless driving that could lead to accidents and kill yourself or others.. Didn't that ever got into your head..
So, just pay your
saman and drive or ride nicely from now on. Think about others who need to use the road to go to work, do things to support their families or simply have fun driving around.. And if you think that the government is enjoying making money from the summons, then, it is your own fault..
Don't forget, check and pay before or on March10, 2011 and peace!
