Then She Walked Out

I was waiting for the elevator to go down at my client's office. I was on the first floor and since Mr. Elisha Otis invented the "Improvement in Hoisting Apparatus", one floor down was a very long way to walk down.

Anyway, as I was watching the down arrow lit up, I heard this coming from above:



Woman: "Yak yak yak yak yak..."
Man: "Bla bla bla bla bla..."

As the elevator came further down...

Woman: "Yak yak yak yak..."
Man: "Bla bla bla bla..."

It grew louder... I guessed it must have been the lack of sound proofing to that elevator that allowed me to hear the yacking, since it was one of those elevators built in the 70s. The one that used the clear circular plastic buttons with large floor indicator printed under them as the floor selection buttons. They don't use that kind of button anymore for those modern elevators.

Anyway, On second thought, they were just loud. If eavesdropping is your favourite pastime, then you should be able to make up what they were talking about. All I knew was that they were so engrossed with their conversation until...

"Ding!" (first floor)

The elevator opened its door and then she walked out, almost walking over me, and I had to move aside...

Woman: "Yak yak yak yak yak..."
Man: "... ... ... ... ... ..."

I knew that multitasking was not his forte as he was unable to stop the woman from walking out to the wrong floor, while he was yacking with her and while he was holding the elevator open, all at the same time.

I knew that he knew that it was not the floor that they were supposed to get out from the hapless look on his face.

I knew that the woman did not know where she was as she was yacking to herself away from the elevator.

Somehow, it amused me to see how far she would walk away before noticing that she was alone. I know. Bad Bear! Therefore, I waited and it was about 5 seconds later, she turned around with a surprise look on her face. Then, she walked back in to the elevator.

Woman: "... ... ... ... ... ..." (face turning red)
Man: "... ... ... ... ... ..." (staring through the elevator)
Bear: "... ...", breathed in "... ...", breathed out...

The silence was unbearable!

"Ding!" (Ground floor)

Bear: "Muahahahahahahahahahahah!"

The woman and the man looked at me disgustingly and walked away...

Bear: "Muahahahahahahahahahahah!", all the way to the car park.

*Words of wisdom: "Always check your floor indicator before walking out of an elevator if you do not want to be laughed at by a bear"

Rachel (Nirina Zubir) is a young energetic tomboy who does not care much about her looks but smart and full of initiative. While Farel (Irwansyah) is a young handsome man who is creative and full of surprises. They grew up together and has been friends since childhood.

One day, in a bookstore, Farel meets a young beautiful girl named Luna (Acha Septriasa), a comic writer. It was love at first sight for Farel and he tells Rachel that he has found the girl of his dreams. As a friend, Rachel supports Farel and helps him in winning Luna’s heart. In her effort to help her friend, suddenly Rachel feels jealous, something that she had never felt before.  Slowly she starts to change her appearance to look more feminine.  Subconsciously, Rachel wants to get Farel’s attention because she is scared of losing him.

At first, Luna rejects Farel’s love but with Rachel’s perseverance in convincing her that Farel loves her very much, Luna becomes Farel’s girlfriend. The two lovers’ lives are filled with beauty and happiness while Rachel falls into loneliness. Rachel always tells Farel that she’s fine and even lie that she now has a boyfriend that loves her.

One day, Rachel accidentally sees Luna and Farel kiss passionately. Rachel is enraged with jealousy and ran away without looking where she’s going, resulting in an accident and her legs has to be amputated. At the same time, amidst Luna and Farel’s happiness, Luna suddenly becomes sick. Luna and Rachel are admitted in the same hospital. It is at the hospital that Rachel sees first hand how much Farel loves Luna and how desperately Luna needs a liver transplant in her time of crisis.

Will Rachel accept the painful truth of losing Farel to Luna? Can Farel deal with the reality of losing Luna forever? What will Rachel do for her best friend’s happiness and who is also her only love?
