Celcom Broadband vs Maxis Broadband

Last Friday, I bought myself a Celcom prepaid broadband. I have been toying with the idea of doing a comparison between that and my Maxis monthly subscription broadband services. Both are offering up 384kbs speed. For your information, both of these services are only used when I am not at home since I am still relying on the reasonably reliable broadband by Jaring at home… Orang selalu kata…”eh, masih ada orang guna Jaring ke?” Yeah… and the old somaport can easily give me up to 1mbps speed… Go and beat that…

Anyway, the main push to try Celcom was due to the fact that the Maxis broadband hardly worked at my home in Seksyen 9 Shah Alam and it would be totally dead at my mom’s place in Kuala Lipis Pahang… Maklumla… Hutan… A few friends recommended I go for Celcom and since there was the long break for the Chinese New Year, I calculatively squeezed RM25 out of my pocket…

The verdict….

In Kuala Lipis, where Maxis broadband had a flatline, Celcom broadband was alive. Although I could only get EDGE connection, it was a huge different compared to Maxis broadband that failed to even detect any signal…

And in Seksyen 9 Shah Alam, where Maxis failed most of the time and could only manage EDGE a couple of times, giving under upgrading process as an excuse, Celcom managed the max 384kbps like a breeze…

Celcom 2 – Maxis 0

As a result…

  1. Thinking of severing my loyalty to Maxis and moved to Celcom. With MNP in place, that would not be such a bad idea.
  2. Definitely throwing away the Maxis broadband after the 6 month offer period is over.
  3. Might even considering replacing the old Jaring somaport with Celcom Wireless gateway…

Pasha and Art

What is art? If you google define:art, you would get something like “the products of human creativity” or “the creation of beautiful or significant things.”

If you try wikipedia, you would get something like “the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others.”

Whatever art is, here is one of Pasha’s days with art…

I was away at work so, Mama Pasha had to take Pasha to his art class at Gymboree Bangsar alone. It was quite a trip from Shah Alam. A taxi ride from home to the KTM Komuter station. Then a train ride to KL Sentral. Followed by an LRT ride from KL Sentral to Bangsar LRT station and lastly, another taxi from the LRT station to Bangsar Village I… Cian Mama Pasha and Pasha….

Nevertheless, it was worth it. Pasha had a ball with paint and he did leave something for the teachers there. The first picture is Pasha and his teacher. That guy is really great with kids… And the other picture is what Pasha left behind…

I guess, as far as Pasha is concerned, art is defined as “leaving something behind for others to remember you for a long time…”

Abstract Art: A product of the untalented, sold by the unprincipled to the utterly bewildered.

Redirecting my Wordpress Subdomain to Main

I hate complicated things and naturally, I would look for shortcuts while fully aware that most shortcuts do not work… Tau tak pe…

This time, I took the shortcut in redirecting my sub domain under http://bbd.kisahberuang.com to http://kisahberuang.com.

The shortcut that I am referring to is using the redirect function in my cPanel.

So, after importing all entries and comments, I selected Redirect with or without www and then selected the Wild Card Redirect as well. It was supposed to make your old links go to your new links when people click on them. So it said…

Done. Tested. The main URL has no issue and it got directed to the new domain. But, the old links, such as from search engine results, gave a page not found instead… Hampeh betui…

I saw Sam of serverfreak online and asked him about my problem. He gave me a solution. That’s why I changed from my previous hosting to serverfreak. It has the best customer services so far. Promote dia sebab dah tolong for free… If you need a reliable hosting, give serverfreak a try. Go to http://www.web-hosting.net.my/.

The solution. Changed the .htaccess file in the subdomain. Changed the original,

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^bbd.kisahberuang.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.bbd.kisahberuang.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ “http\:\/\/kisahberuang\.com$1″ [R=301,L]

To

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?bbd.kisahberuang\.com [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^kisahberuang\.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.kisahberuang.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Now, I managed to get any URL referring to the old domain to go to the new domain. Yes! Aku berjaya…

p/s;

Still could not figure out how to get old links/entries to go to the old links/entries in the new domain. Camna ek?

Help Baby Ammar

Echoing Nuffnang’s effort in helping Baby Ammar…

2-year-old Ammar Danish has suffered from Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) since birth. He has a hole in his heart which results in oxygenated blood and non-oxygenated blood mixing together, which in turn puts a lot of strain on his heart and lung arteries. In some cases, the hole eventually seals itself up after some time, but during a routine checkup on 11 January 2010, it was clear that that wasn’t the case with Baby Ammar and doctors pronounced surgery as being necessary to prevent the situation from growing worse.

His parents need to raise RM12,000 by 22 February 2010. That’s a lot of money needed in a very short time. Kalau aku pun tergolek kalau jadi macam ni…

Help them in any way you can. Read for more details at Nuffnang Charity Project – Baby Ammar and Ammar oh Ammar!!!

To Ammar and family, have faith, stay strong and InsyaAllah, things will be alright…

The wooden bowl

** Something that I got in my mail **

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year – old grandson.

The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather’s shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.

We must do something about father,” said the son.

I’ve had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the
floor.

So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather’s direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone.

Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly,

What are you making?

Just as sweetly, the boy responded,

Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up.” The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.

The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took Grandfather’s hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

On a positive note, I’ve learned that, no matter what happens, how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

I’ve learned that, regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life. I’ve learned that making a “living” is not the same thing as making a “life..” I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back I’ve learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you But, if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one. I’ve learned that every day, you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch — holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.

I’ve learned that you should pass this on to everyone you care about .I just did.

Birthday party

We were invited to Iffat’s birthday party by Inar and Azhir. We also supplied one of the birthday cakes for the event. Our Toy Story theme cake was a big hit with the kids… Mama Pasha was elated! Jarang ni supplier dijemput hadir… haha… Thanks ya!

Iffat’s bulletin and the Toy Story cake complete with Woody, Buzz, Mr Potato, Rex and the Alien

The party was a big success. The party room at Pizza Hut TTDI was an excellent choice. Lots of space for kids and adults to run around.

Kids and adults having lots of fun!

We did not really know anybody accept for the hosts. We believe, based on the looks and styles, almost or might be all of them were related to each other. However, they were really friendly and nice folks and we did not feel out of place at all. Semua orang happy happy jer!

Cake cutting and lots of food!

The cake cutting ceremony was a blast! While Iffat was oblivious, the parents were having a field day! There were ample food and drinks to go around and we were pretty sure that nobody left the party with any room in their tummies for any other food. At least for the next few hours or so… Kenyang beb!

The birthday boy and his parents!

As for Pasha, he had a great time with all the balloons. Forget about other kids, toys, food, etc etc etc. He was in his own world with lots of balloons. Frankly, I have never been to a birthday party with so many balloons to play and pop to my heart’s contents… Jadi bebudak kejap aku petang tuh…

Pasha and the balloons…

All in all, it was one of the best birthday part y that we had ever attended. Thanks to Inar, Azhir and families for having us there. Not to mention that we even won the last lucky draw on that day!

Splendid, Jusco & Ayam Penyet AP

It was a rather busy day for us. Mama Pasha had to buy some stuffs for Iffat’s birthday cake that need to be delivered on Sunday and we had to get some red and white clothing for the same event…

After Mama Pasha got her stuffs, we went looking for lunch around our place in Section 9, Shah Alam. Pasha opted for one of his favourites, the happy meal from Mc D. Chicken nuggets, fries, ice milo and a transformer toy were enough to satisfy his hunger… Pantang nampak Mc D si Pasha nih…

As for us, we bumped into a familiar looking restaurant and we went in thinking it was the same restaurant that was there. Everything inside was still the same until we got the menu. Oh boy! Noodle Station was gone and now replaced by Splendid, a cake house and cafe… Anyway, we went ahead and ordered two mushroom chicken chops.

The chicken chop of Splendid…

The verdict… Unless you are very hungry and could not walk any further, do not order the chicken chop… It was salty and the chicken tasted like it has been sitting in the freezer for ages… Tak sedap….

Done with lunch, we went over to IOI Mall in Puchong since the red Thomas jumpsuit size for Pasha that we saw in Shah Alam was only available at the Dolyphin (the spelling is right) outlet there. Then we went over to Jusco to get some costumes for Mama Pasha and Papa Bear.

Pasha was obviously already tired and he was cranky most of the time. He was in a hyper mood and at one time he decided to time himself out…

Pasha timing out himself… You can see the legs…

By hiding behind some dresses….

After Jusco we went to Giant in Bandar Puteri, Puchong for some groceries and by the time we got out, it was already dark. “Ini sudah mayam“, said Pasha…

On the way home, Mama Pasha spotted the Ayam Penyet AP restaurant. We stopped by for our dinner. The sign board said, Ibu Nor’s authentic ayam penyek and nasi padang. Sounded yummy…

Mama Pasha ordered ayam penyet and sayur asem and I ordered rawon…

Adehhh… Indah kabar dari rupa rupa dari rasa….

Mama Pasha said the ayam penyet or smashed chicken as translated in the menu was quite okay since she was already famished. My rawon or beef soup was terrible. It was a far cry from the real rawon from Surabaya that I had tasted… A really far cry… Tak sama langsung…

The food from left to right: rawon, sayur asem and ayam penyet.
The pictures are foggish due to the steam from the food…

I did taste a bit of the chicken and I would recommend the ayam penyet restaurant across the street from Sunway Pyramid… That place was a bit chaotic but the food was much better and tasted like the real ayam penyet…

The verdict… We would not go there for second time….

That’s the end of our Saturday outing…
